The island of Kauai, with its lush forests and
exotic birds, is home to the picturesque Kilauea Point. As you stand overlooking
the distant surf, humpback whales, spinner dolphins and monk seals come into
view, paying a visit to the magical island formed by volcanoes.
One hundred and eighty feet above the shore, Kilauea Point is the
first landfall spotted by mariners traveling eastward from the Orient. In 1913,
officials established a light station near the cliffs, quite clearly the most
strategic location on Kauai.
